Senior Backend Engineer

Description: Join a European fintech startup as a Backend Engineer to build trust infrastructure. Design scalable systems for high trust workflows and collaborate with the engineering team on technical culture and architecture. Requirements: 5+ years of backend engineering experience with production systems. Strong systems thinking and long-term architecture reasoning. Clear communicator and effective collaborator. Quick learner who thrives in ambiguity with kindness and curiosity. Experience with backend languages (Node.js, TypeScript, Python, Go, Java) and building production systems. Experience designing scalable APIs and backend infrastructure for high volumes or high trust environments. Production experience with relational databases, automated testing, message queues, and containerized/cloud environments (Kubernetes, AWS, etc.). Background in fintech, payments, identity, or regulated domains is a plus. Benefits: Base salary range: EUR 116,000 to 146,000 annually. Fully remote work arrangement within European time zones; primary location: Austria.
