Intuit
Principal Product Designer – AI-Native Accountant Suite
About this role
This is a remote role based in North Carolina, United States. Company Overview Intuit is the global financial technology platform that powers prosperity for the people and communities we serve. With tens of millions of customers worldwide using products such as TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to prosper. We never stop working to find new, innovative ways to make that possible. Job Overview Intuit builds the platform accounting firms run their practices on, from solo practitioners to the largest firms in the world, serving millions of small business clients. At that scale, the hardest design problems aren’t on any single screen. They live in the structure underneath: who the user is, what they can see and do, which clients and companies they’re connected to, and how the same objects show up consistently across every surface and screen. Across Intuit Accountant Suite, QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Live, and ProPartner, firm leaders, staff, client users, and Intuit’s experts all work on shared things: transactions, invoices, tasks, templates, documents, and requests. As we become AI-native, that structure matters even more. When AI acts on a user’s behalf, the rules for identity, access, and permissions become the rules for what AI can see and do. We’re looking for a Principal Product Designer with deep strength in systems design for large-scale enterprise products to build the map: the shared model of objects, relationships, and rules that connects our surfaces and teams. You’ll turn that model into experiences that feel simple for a two-person firm and hold up for the largest firms we serve. You’ll be the connective tissue across teams: a design facilitator and force multiplier who brings designers, PMs, and engineers into the same model and keeps it coherent as we ship. Responsibilities Experience architecture and the object model Define and own the cross-product object model for Intuit Accountant Suite, QuickBooks Online, and ProPartner, covering identity, roles, permissions, and access at firm scale. Turn the model into reusable navigation and interaction patterns that teams can apply consistently across surfaces. Define the rules for how objects, people, and permissions behave and show up consistently across firm, client, and Intuit surfaces. Extend the object model to AI agents, defining the identity, access, and behavior rules that govern what agents can see and do on behalf of users. Identity, permissions, and access at scale Define experience requirements for role-based access, cross-firm collaboration, and client staff workflows. Partner with Product and Engineering to operationalize access rules, audit trails, and secure by default behavior. Address account switching, multi-entity firms, and staff transitions without breaking trust or continuity. Translate complex permission structures into experiences that feel simple and predictable. Partner with engineering on the foundations Work directly with engineering leadership to turn the model into durable platform capabilities, APIs, and data structures. Participate in design reviews, architecture conversations, and system audits to keep the experience coherent as we scale. Identify the highest leverage structural investments and help sequence them against product priorities. Facilitate and multiply Run workshops, model walkthroughs, and working sessions that align design, product, and engineering on shared language and direction. Build the artifacts (maps, models, decision records, and prototypes) that make the system legible to every team. Drive alignment across multiple product teams by making trade-offs explicit and grounding decisions in user and business outcomes. Support AI-native product thinking by clarifying how agents will interact with the object model and the guardrails that should apply. Craft leadership and mentorship Raise the craft bar for systems design across the Intuit Accountant Suite design team. Mentor senior designers on object modeling, pattern thinking, and cross-product coherence. Help establish reusable practices and tooling for designing at the systems level. Qualifications 12+ years of product design experience, with significant depth in systems design, object modeling, or information architecture for complex enterprise products. Demonstrated experience designing cross-product systems, including identity, permissions, or access models at scale. Experience partnering with engineering on platform capabilities, APIs, or data models, with a working knowledge of how systems are built. Strong facilitation and storytelling skills; able to align large groups around a shared model and make complex systems understandable. Experience designing for AI-powered products, including agent behavior, automation, or AI-driven workflows (preferred). Familiarity with accounting, professional services, or other multi-user enterprise domains (preferred). A portfolio that shows systems thinking in action, including object models, frameworks, and end-to-end product experiences. Strong understanding of accessibility, inclusive design, and designing for trust. Experience mentoring designers and raising craft standards across a team. Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Intuit provides a competitive compensation package with a strong pay for performance rewards approach.
