Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Sensors & Intelligence

Description: Join Tonal's Sensors & Intelligence team as a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to develop foundation models of human movement and physiology. Work with multimodal data from the largest strength training dataset to enhance adaptive coaching, form feedback, and musculoskeletal health models. Requirements: Proven independent researcher with a strong publication record in relevant venues (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML). PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field preferred. Expertise in sensor fusion, biomechanics, physiological signal modeling, or computer vision for human motion. Hands-on experience with transformer architectures and ML frameworks (PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow). Strong grounding in signal processing and rigorous experimental design. Ability to drive ambiguous research problems toward measurable product impact. Clear communicator capable of explaining complex findings to diverse audiences.
