About this role
Job Title: Manager, Engineering
- Flickr Job Level: M2 Location: Remote, within approved U.S. states (see below) How software gets built at Flickr is changing, and this role is central to that change. Our engineers spend their time specifying problems precisely, setting constraints, directing agentic tools, and verifying what comes back. If that’s already how you work, you’ll recognize this job immediately. As an Engineering Manager, you’ll own the team responsible for the experience Flickr members have every day: the native apps, groups and community, privacy and moderation tooling, and the quality of the product people already pay for. You’ll partner with a dedicated product manager, and you’ll be accountable both for what your team delivers and for helping your engineers adopt a new way of working. Compensation: Awesome is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $181,000-$209,100. This position is also remote-friendly, and as such, compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Various factors, such as defined competency leveling and geographic location, will determine the final compensation for this role. Benefits: Health, dental, vision insurance with 100% premium coverage for you and dependents. Health Savings Account contributions covering 90%+ of annual deductible. 401(k) with company match and immediate vesting. Professional development and learning opportunities. Remote work support (internet, fitness, coworking space reimbursements). Company-sponsored therapy and coaching sessions. Your Opportunity: Lead your team through the shift in how Flickr builds software. Set the expectation, model it yourself, and coach your engineers to meet the new standard. Define what rigorous verification looks like for your areas, build the evals that make it repeatable, and hold the team to it. Hire, mentor, and grow your team, and build a place where people do their best work and always know where they stand. Assess and coach engineers on what matters now: the quality of the inputs they give the tools, how well they use them, and how carefully they verify the output. Own the quality signal for your areas, with detection, alerting, and triage that catch problems before members do. Set the roadmap with your product partner, and keep leadership informed on progress, risks, and incidents without softening bad news. Partner with Legal, Trust & Safety, and Support on privacy, data handling, and moderation, including work with regulatory deadlines. You Have: Management experience with direct responsibility for your team’s performance and growth, including the hard conversations. You’ll be coaching experienced engineers through a difficult change from day one. Hands-on fluency with agentic workflows. You’ve shipped real work using prompts, agents, and agentic loops, you’re starting to build evals, and you have a clear opinion on what verification means when a human didn’t write the code. Deep frontend web experience with TypeScript, React, and Next.js, plus hands-on backend experience building APIs on serverless infrastructure. You have enough depth to push back on a plan and earn credibility with senior engineers. A track record of improving quality and reliability on a consumer-facing product. Precise, concise communication. You can describe how a system behaves accurately enough for Legal to act on it, and you lead with a clear position rather than the analysis behind it. Comfort with the financial side of running a team, including budgets, cost optimization, and vendor management. Beyond The Skills: Our stack: PHP 8 on the backend, TypeScript with React and Next.js on the web, and native iOS and Android apps, all backed by a serverless architecture on AWS. We build with agentic workflows and evals. If you haven’t worked with part of our stack, you can learn it with us. Nice to have: Broader AWS infrastructure experience, native mobile development, Next.js deployment, and Kubernetes. Your team: Senior and Staff engineers working across web and native mobile. Several have deep Flickr history and know the product extremely well. Start by earning their trust, and be their advocate. What We Offer You: **Comprehensive Benefits**
