Alan
Finance Manager
About this role
Health does not wait. Symptoms get worse. It takes 6 months to get an appointment. We depend on a health system bogged down in paperwork and manual processes. And yet, this is how healthcare works today in West Africa. You wait, until you can no longer wait. We exist to end this wait. Founded in 2022 in Senegal, Tanel is the first digital health insurer in French-speaking West Africa. It operates in Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire. We are transforming a market dominated by paper-based processes and fragmented historical players. With more than 30,000 members, a network of more than 1,200 healthcare facilities and more than 400 pharmacies, and revenue multiplied by 7 in 2025, we have demonstrated a real fit between our product and market needs, in countries that needed a revolution. In 2026, Alan, the European leader in prevention-focused health insurance, with more than €950M in revenue and 1M+ members in France, Belgium, Spain and Canada, acquired Tanel to accelerate its expansion across the African continent. Together, we are building the reference health insurance in French-speaking West Africa, with the ambition of reaching $200M in revenue by 2030. We combine the best of both worlds : Tanel's field expertise, its local relationships and the trust it has built, along with Alan's cutting-edge technology platform, its actuarial expertise and its experience deploying across several countries. ⭐️ Finance at Alan ⭐️ Finance at Alan is the team building the financial foundation to run a fast-growing digital health insurer, in markets where almost everything remains to be built. The core of our responsibilities: produce reliable financial information for each of our entities, keep books always ready for closing, and give the company the numbers it can rely on to make decisions. Day to day, this means maintaining accounting, driving closings, coordinating external firms, monitoring cash and pushing automation in a multi-country, multi-currency context. We bring together a diversity of profiles: Profiles who structure: defining the reporting model, financial standards and processes, Profiles who deliver: excellent accounting production and reporting day to day, while continuously improving what we do. We are looking for team members ready to establish world-class financial standards in markets that deserve them, and to turn them into a real advantage. ⭐️ The Finance Manager role ⭐️ We are looking for an experienced, hands-on finance manager to lead the entire finance function of our activities in West Africa. You will be the single point of accountability for how this scope is run and reported. Based in Dakar, you will be the link between local teams, external firms and headquarters. In detail, your responsibilities will include: Driving reporting across the whole scope: produce each month the income statement, balance sheet and cash position of each entity and integrate them cleanly into the global monthly reporting. Coordinating accountants and firms: lead a team of accountants and the relationship with each entity's external accounting firms — set the closing calendar, review their deliverables and maintain quality standards. Driving closing and controls: ensure a reliable monthly close across all entities and currencies (FCFA and USD), own reconciliations and put in place the necessary controls as the business moves toward audit-ready accounts. Serving as the link with headquarters: be the group's finance point of contact — translate local realities into reporting standards, respond to data requests and support consolidation. Improving, automating and growing the team: challenge and streamline financial processes to reduce manual work and speed up reporting, and take part in recruiting, onboarding and upskilling the local finance team. You will work with a high degree of autonomy, in close collaboration with the central Finance, Data and Treasury teams. ⭐️ A unique opportunity to take part in something historic ⭐️ As a member of the Alan team, you will be at the forefront of a real health revolution in West Africa. You will help build the operational backbone of a company growing from 30,000 to hundreds of thousands of members, from two countries to an entire continent. You will experience the energy of a fast-moving startup, driven by its founders and in full growth. This is not an ordinary operations role: you will operate in a market where everything is to be built, and where your work will have a direct and visible impact on people's lives. ⭐️ You might be the right person if… ⭐️ You have more than 6 years of experience in accounting/finance, with real responsibility for a multi-entity close. You master SYSCOHADA / OHADA standards and local taxation (VAT, corporate income tax/BIC). You have proven experience managing accountants and external firms, defining standards and maintaining a production calendar, and you make a distributed financial setup run on time. You are rigorous, autonomous, proactive and solution-oriented. You are an excellent communicator, comfortable bridging local teams and international stakeholders. You are fully comfortable in French and English (the group's working language). Even better if you have: Experience in health insurance, mutual health organizations (IPM/mutuelle) or a third-party administration environment (TPA). Good knowledge of the regulatory environment in Senegal or Côte d'Ivoire; consolidation experience (US GAAP or IFRS/French GAAP) is a plus. Data and automation skills to make reporting more reliable and faster. 🎁 Benefits Contract type: permanent employment (CDI). On site, at our Dakar offices, in close collaboration with a passionate local team. All the tools you need to give your best. Comprehensive health insurance through Alan for you and your family. Learning and development opportunities: a flexible policy, budgets for books and conferences. 🎯 Important note: we recruit people, not roles. If this opportunity excites you but you don't tick every box, we would be delighted to talk with you. Everyone, including people from underrepresented groups, should feel free to apply: either we succeed, or we learn. Remember, this is a guide, not an exhaustive list. #LI-DNP
