Partner 20, Social Media Lead, Frontier

Founded in Silicon Valley in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, Andreessen Horowitz (aka a16z) is a venture capital firm that backs bold entrepreneurs building the future through technology. We are stage agnostic. We invest in seed to venture to growth-stage technology companies, across AI, bio + healthcare, consumer, enterprise, fintech, frontier, games, and companies building toward American dynamism. a16z has $100B+ under management across multiple funds. We’ve established a team that is defined by respect for the entrepreneur and the company-building process; we know what it’s like to be in the founder’s shoes. Our team is at the forefront of new technology, helping founders and their companies impact and change the world. a16z Frontier is a venture capital fund from Andreessen Horowitz that invests in emerging technologies across AI, biology, crypto, hardware, and more. We’re drawn to the outer planets, the outliers and edge cases that don’t fit neatly into preset categories. This has been our approach for years: backing founders building a future no one else sees yet, long before it becomes mainstream. Some projects start out looking absurd or unserious — more like toys, experiments, or weekend hobbies — but go on to change lives. The Frontier marketing team supports portfolio companies through R&D; engineering, security, and best practices; legal and regulatory, designed to guide founders and policymakers in traditionally unregulated or tough regulatory environments; go-to-market expertise, including platform support and partnerships for emerging markets; recruiting services to scale businesses; and marketing that helps founders and others navigate the frontier. This is a rare opportunity at an established, prolific “direct media” operation — a model pioneered and proven by this team for over a decade at a16z — that has published influential industry reports, op-eds, builder playbooks, podcasts/ videos, newsletters, and other content distributed on various platforms. The marketing team is composed of experienced brand marketers, top communications/ PR experts, designers, and editors coming from both established media outlets and in-house content marketing operations; the social media will cover all these marketing functions, while reporting into editorial. The Role The Social Media Lead is responsible for growing a16z Frontier’s social channels, including engaging key communities across different audiences in different domains. They will work closely with the Frontier marketing team to (1) adapt and distribute existing content pieces into social media posts; and (2) help create content native to social media: clips, campaigns, and more. This spans everything from social media for external pod appearances/ media interviews to investment announcements; to events and major industry conferences; to editorial content; to special projects, campaigns, and more. This person will also advise the broader a16z Frontier team (from investing to operations) — as well as our portfolio companies — in social media strategy and profile building. This is a remote role (including on West Coast time), though occasional in-office presence will be required for regular team offsites, occasional conferences/events, and based on business needs.
