Senior Backend Python Engineer (Gateway)

Description: Join the Gateway Related Projects team to design, develop, and implement reliable payment solutions. Work in a fast-paced environment focused on system performance, scalability, and reliability. Location: Remote from Portugal or Poland (Contractor arrangement). Report to the Technical Lead. Requirements: 5+ years of backend engineering experience with deep Python expertise (FastAPI and AsyncIO preferred). Experience with Perl is a plus; eagerness to learn and work with Perl is mandatory. Proven experience in building and scaling microservices architectures and high-throughput systems. Deep understanding of integrating third-party APIs, managing webhooks, callbacks, and retry policies. Strong experience with Docker/Containerization and AWS cloud infrastructure. Advocate for clean, intentional code with a focus on engineering logic. Familiarity with event-driven architecture and messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ). Track record of owning features from design to production and mentoring other engineers. Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
