Senior Service and UX Designer, Government Digital Transformation Full-time Contract | Remote within Canada | Alberta Business Hours About the opportunity Aequilibrium is seeking a Senior Service and UX Designer for a potential multi-year public-sector digital modernization initiative. You will help improve complex internal, partner-facing, and public-facing digital services supporting housing programs across Alberta. The environment includes an enterprise Microsoft Dynamics 365 platform, a Partner Portal and related digital services. This is a senior, hands-on role combining service design, user research, enterprise UX, accessible interface design and stakeholder facilitation. You will work within a cross-functional Agile team alongside product managers, business analysts, developers, architects and government stakeholders. The initial contract is expected to run from November 2026 to November 2027, with the potential for two additional one-year extensions. The successful candidate must reside and work in Canada and be available full-time during Alberta business hours. Compensation The anticipated contractor rate for this role is $80–$100 per hour, depending on experience, public-sector qualifications, and alignment with the required service-design capabilities. The engagement is expected to be full-time, with approximately 2,000 hours anticipated annually. The initial one-year contract may be extended for up to two additional one-year terms; extensions and annual hours are subject to client approval and are not guaranteed. What you will do
- Lead human-centered design across internal, partner-facing and public-facing digital services.
- Plan and conduct user research, including interviews, discovery workshops, usability testing, surveys and behavioral analysis.
- Map complex service ecosystems and develop current-state and future-state journey maps and service blueprints.
- Translate research, user needs and business requirements into information architecture, user flows, wireframes and interactive prototypes.
- Design intuitive, responsive and accessible interfaces for enterprise web applications and portals.
- Create and maintain enterprise design systems, including component libraries, design tokens and interaction standards.
- Apply WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility requirements throughout research, design and implementation.
- Facilitate design-thinking, co-design and stakeholder-alignment workshops.
- Collaborate closely with product, business, architecture, development and quality-assurance teams within an Agile environment.
- Prepare production-ready design specifications and support developer handoff, implementation and design QA.
- Use usability metrics, analytics and user feedback to measure outcomes and guide continuous improvement.
- Provide design leadership while remaining actively involved in research and design delivery. What we are looking for The following experience is required:
